MARTIN O’NEILL MAY have to plan without James McClean for Ireland’s crunch Euro 2016 clash with Poland.
The Wigan winger emerged as an injury doubt at this morning’s session in Malahide.
McClean did not train with the rest of the squad and is due to have a scan on an ankle injury later today.
“It’s precautionary I hope,” O’Neill said. “He was feeling [his ankle] a little bit so we’ll see how he is.
“It wasn’t that it happened at training. He felt a little bit sore after yesterday.
“He thought that it might go away. It’s just a bit of a pain across the ankle.
“I haven’t picked the side yet. James has played exceptionally well for us in most of the games since I’ve been in charge. Obviously I know him quite well, I know him very well in fact, and he’s a good player for us.”
Stephen Ward (ankle) and Darron Gibson (groin) sat out training for a second day and their fitness will be monitored on a day-to-day basis between now on Sunday.
On Gibson, O’Neill said: I wouldn’t know the medical terms of it but it’s a groin strain and he’s still feeling it. Again, it’s only Tuesday, we’ll see how things develop.”
New call-up Harry Arter took part in his first training session as a senior international while Robbie Keane was present after flying in to join the squad last night but was given the morning off.
How are they persevering with Sanchez? Be a great spot for Kelleher now. Could win a few trophies there.
Haaland was the Haaland from his Dortmund days in that second half so direct and bullying that Chelsea defence. Marmoush looks dangerous City have some options now attacking wise out wide also with Marmoush playing as a second striker too they have options to play different styles again. Still need a holding midfielder or someone who can run in the midfield.
