Imokilly 4-17
Sarsfields 4-10
THE CORK SHC final will be a repeat of the 2001 meeting of Blackrock and Imokilly after the East Cork divisional side defeated Sarsfields in their semi-final replay at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday night.
A good start and a good finish to the second half were key for Imokilly. Trailing by a point, 1-8 to 1-7, at half-time, they firmly seized the momentum as goals from Paudie O’Sullivan and Séamus Harnedy — both of whom finished with 2-3 — put them 3-9 to 1-7 in front within seven minutes of the resumption.
Sars weren’t done though and sub Liam Healy’s goal gave them hope. Even when Harnedy got his second goal, Sars kept alive their hopes of an eighth final in 10 years as Eoin O’Sullivan netted before a delivery into the goalmouth by goalkeeper Alan Kennedy went all the way to the net.
That brought them back to two points, 4-12 to 4-10, but it was their last score as Imokilly pushed on impressively once more.
The division had begun well as O’Sullivan netted and they were 1-2 to 0-3 in front before a freak own goal by full-back Colm Barry — his handpass going over goalkeeper Declan Dalton’s head — put Sars in front.
They held that lead until half-time but it was never more than two points and Imokilly’s strong response after the interval put them in control.
Scorers for Imokilly: Paudie O’Sullivan, Séamus Harnedy 2-3 each, Brian Lawton, William Leahy (0-2 frees) 0-3, John Cronin, Mark O’Keeffe, Ger Millerick, Declan Dalton (65), Daniel Mangan 0-1 each.

Frank has some roger on him now. Rockies in the first hurling final in his new stadium
@.: but unfortunately for Frank they are playing a divisional side so the gate receipts will be down. He would have been praying for Sars to win for that reason…plus the Rockies would have had some chance against Sars.
@jonathon carroll: I don’t know Jonathon, I’m a Piarsaig man, my kids are Sars and I’ll still bring my kids to the the first final in Pairc Uí Caoimh even though they were at the first set of Semis last week.
Credit where it’s due, they did a great job of renovating.
Mon the Rockies
They will absolutley murder blackrock in the final.
@damien o brien: maybe,but they’ll never equal the Rockies record
Killeagh are a senior team in their own right at the moment, so they don’t contribute to Imokilly. There are 8 divisions in Cork. Some strong in hurling, some in football, some in both, some in neither. Very difficult for divisions to get lads to commit to a level where they can compete with the top senior clubs, hence why divisions have so few county triumphs, so fair play to Imokilly in that respect.
Might get the likes of Colm Barry, Niall O’Leary, Will Leahy and Cian Fleming into inter county consideration too.
Blackrock now guaranteed to represent Cork in the Munster championship, of course, as divisions not permitted to play in that.
What’s the story with imokilly players having club names in brackets beside there names? Genuine question. Im from offaly, (don’t Slag lads) and I know we have a far smaller county and championship, but im curious to how that works? Is imokilly a region of Cork or a amalgamation of clubs for senior grade?
@conex: that’s right, Imokilly is an amalgamation of Junior and Intermediate Hurling clubs in East Cork. Were seriously strong back in the late 90s early 00s before the likes of Killeagh, Cloyne, Carrigtohill and a others went up Senior. Look like they’re coming strong again. Another contributor above reckons Imokilly won’t draw a big gate but historically they have had superb support down the years as East Cork clubs live their hurling.
@conex: Jesus Christ will you read the post
It says imokilly the divisional side
It’s a joke though
Cloyne for instance competed in a couple of senior Finals not that long ago and were competitive for a good while
Killeagh as well won the intermediate a few years back and competed in the senior championship and here they are now playing with the divisional side
It’s a fu€kin joke
There’s no Killeagh players on the Imokilly team, there still a senior club
@conex: all the club’s in the Imokilly side have won something or had success, Castlelyons, St Catherines and Cloyne all senior till 5 years ago or so. The fact they aren’t now enables them to play senior. Seamus Harnedy comes from a very small junior club so it gives him the opportunity to play. Divisional sides have been around for years it’s only when they have success do people start moaning about it.
@Ger Martin:Even worse in kerry this year where you had West kerry in a county senior F semi-final which included twelve players from An Gaeltacht who play in the Intermediate final shortly now thats a fu..king joke too.
Sars rule ,42 / Coochie cup they couldent look Frank straight in the face.The old school Soccer lads in Glanmire know what im talking about.So do Sars.
@Jerry Sharma: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
@M: don’t worry about it. It’s a local thing.
@Jerry Sharma: that was an absolute disgrace at the time. Fair play to Nemo For stepping up and allowing it the first couple of years though.
@casual.tri.guy: as in local shop,for local ppl
