Cork against Wexford the pick of the games after All-Ireland hurling qualifier round 1 draw

THE CLASH OF Cork and Wexford is the pick of the games after this morning’s All-Ireland hurling qualifier Round 1 draw.

Wexford will have home advantage as they try to bounce back from the hammering they suffered at the hands of Kilkenny in yesterday’s Leinster semi-final.

Cork are trying to pick up the pieces after their Munster semi-final loss against Waterford. Cork and Wexford last clashed in the championship in 2012 when the Rebels won a qualifier tie in Thurles.

Elsewhere Dublin will travel to take on Laois, three years after the counties last clashed in a championship encounter.

There’ll be a novel fixture between Westmeath and Limerick with Michael Ryan’s Westmeath side enjoying home advantage.

And 20 years after they played when the counties faced off in the All-Ireland senior hurling final, it’ll be Davy Fitzgerald going up against Brian Whelehan as Clare entertain Offaly.

The games will be played on Saturday 4 July with times and venues to be confirmed later today.
