Heymans has Bayonne ban cut after saying sorry
“I understand the surprise and disappointment of the Bayonne supporters and I’m sorry for having shocked people, which was absolutely not my intention,” the French star said today.
FRANCE FULL BACK Cedric Heymans had his club ban reduced to one match today after apologising to Bayonne president Alain Afflelou for disrespecting fans.
Afflelou announced on Friday that Heymans and Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips had been suspended “until further notice”, the latter for “his intolerable sporting behaviour off the pitch”.
But Heymans made swift amends, saying: “I understand the surprise and disappointment of the Bayonne supporters and I’m sorry for having shocked people, which was absolutely not my intention.
“It’s clear that a professional player cannot be upset by reactions from a very disappointed public.”
