FORMER CONNACHT CAPTAIN Gavin Duffy is expected to feature for Salthill/Knocknacarra in the Galway senior football championship tomorrow afternoon.
TheScore.ie understands that there is speculation that Duffy won’t be involved in the Mayo panel for Sunday’s Connacht semi-final against Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park.
Last night Duffy trained with Salthill/Knocknacarra ahead of their Galway SFC first round clash with An Cheathru Rua at the weekend.
Salthill/Knocknacarra, All Ireland champions in 2006, won the last of their three Galway county titles two years ago. Galway senior players Finian Hanley and Sean Armstrong are amongst their ranks and they will be boosted by the addition of Duffy.
This week 32 year old Duffy, capped 10 times for Ireland, was announced as Connacht Rugby’s Senior Development Executive working within the Commercial & Marketing department at the Sportsground.
Ballina native Duffy, who played in the 1999 All Ireland minor decider for Mayo, has been training with Salthill-Knocknacarra and Mayo in recent weeks and could figure for the Seasiders at Pearse Stadium tomorrow.
Only fair. Can’t expect to just walk onto a team that has contested the last two All-Ireland finals. The story was much ado about nothing from the start.
