GARRY MONK HAS quit as Leeds United manager after a promising first season in charge where they narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs.
The 38-year-old Englishman, who impressed when he took over initially at Swansea before being sacked when they slumped in his second season in charge, had been told by new Leeds chairman and owner Andrea Radrizzani he would have money to invest in the transfer market.
However, Monk, who only signed an initial one-year contract, rejected Radrizzaniโs overtures.
We are shocked and disappointed by Garryโs decision but his resignation has been reluctantly accepted by chairman Andrea Radrizzani,โ read a club statement.
โAndrea made it clear to the media yesterday (Wednesday) that his intention was to exercise the clubโs option to extended the managerโs contract for another 12 months and immediately begin negotiations for a longer-term deal.
Mr Radrizzani has met with Garry twice since taking over at Elland Road earlier this week and during the second meeting yesterday it became clear that Garry was considering life beyond Leeds United as at no time did Garry wish to discuss terms for a longer contract.โ
Monk looked to have steered Leeds to the play-offs until a late-season slump saw them overhauled by Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday in the race for the Premier League, dropping them to seventh in the final Championship standings, five points off the play-offs.
The former Swansea central defender has been linked with the full-time post at relegated Premier League side Middlesbrough, although there are also vacancies at Premier League sides Watford and Crystal Palace.

Well done. Great Cause
Could have come first if he didnโt stop to take the bloody selfieโฆ.Great man. Great cause. Lovely story.
Selfie mehole. Soon as the picture was taken, he hopped on a sleigh with 12 huskies pulling him along, and cracked open a bottle of powers
The only reason he didnโt win was because he spent the first 3 days going in the wrong direction.
Wow! There really are some fantastic human beings around! And he is one!!
What a lazy fecker.
SECOND?
Fair play to him, great cause and a great performance to match
I know, whats with the article he didnโt even win like?
Hadnโt have slept those 6 hours he might have won lazy fecker. Congratulations though thatโs some achievement.
And the race is from where to where?
Exactly! Any chance of including whatโs actually involved in the race?
As his medal says โfinisherโ coz most people canโt finish the toughest course in the world (probably) And that little boy will smile ear to ear after he recovers Fair fox ta ya man fair fox ta ya.
Respect โฆ. Wow โฆ.. Well done
Cmon the tribesmen
North to Alaska/Johhny Horton
Sam crossed the majestic mountains (mush)
To the valleys far below (mush)
He talked to his team of huskies (mush)
As he mushed on through the snow (mush)
With the northern lights a-runninโ wild (mush)
In the land of the midnight sun (mush)
Yes, Sam McCord was a mighty man (mush)
In the year of nineteen-one (mush)
โฆโฆโฆAnd so is Gavan Hannigan a Mighty Man too.Well done Gavan!
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

The Spell of the Yukon
I wanted the gold, and I sought it, I scrabbled and mucked like a slave.
Was it famine or scurvy โ I fought it; I hurled my youth into a grave.
I wanted the gold, and I got it โ Came out with a fortune last fall, โ
Yet somehow lifeโs not what I thought it, And somehow the gold isnโt all.
No! Thereโs the land. (Have you seen it?) Itโs the cussedest land that I know,
From the big, dizzy mountains that screen it To the deep, deathlike valleys below.
Some say God was tired when He made it; Some say itโs a fine land to shun;
Maybe; but thereโs some as would trade it For no land on earth โ and Iโm one.
