Craughwell 0-21
Liam Mellows 2-14
Loughrea 0-21
St Thomas’ 2-15
IT WAS A double-header at Kenny Park where controversy proved the order of the day as the Galway senior hurling championship reached the quarter-final stage.
In the opener, Craughwell led by three points at the break having been much the better team in the opening period but Liam Mellows conjured an excellent second-half showing and racked up 2-07.
Tadhg Horan tallied 11 points – five of them from play – and had the chance to force a replay with a 25m free.
But, agonisingly for him, he put the effort wide and Craughwell held out to claim victory by the narrowest of margins and make it through to the final four.
In today’s second quarter-final, the spoils between Loughrea and St. Thomas’ were shared after a controversial finale.
With the teams level, referee Ger O’Connor blew the full-time whistle just as James Regan’s effort sailed over the bar. The score would’ve given Thomas’ the victory but it was over-ruled and the sides must meet again.
Has Pep enjoyed unparalleled success with Bayern? I know it’s hard to follow someone who won the treble, but Bayern have never looked as dangerous playing the ‘Pep’ way as they did when they tore Barca apart playing direct, fast, powerful football.
He’s been great domestically but Dortmund did sort of fall apart around the same time.
Good to see a manager posting some common sense re cultural tactics. Shame LVG is too arrogant to admit his approach doesnt work in england. Leicester have probably the lowest possession stats in the league.
Hiddinks style is working well anyway…
It’s always surprised me why Guardiola has gotten the credit for a system started by Cruyff. I remember when Guardiola decided to leave Barcelona as a player. He had trouble finding a club willing to pay what he thought he was worth. He’s always had an inflated ego.
