RTÉ HAVE ANNOUNCED their live television schedule of GAA championship games for 2018 with the new changes to the football and hurling structures having an expected impact on their coverage.

Kompany? Mother of God. Shur make him Captain altogether.
@Simon Doherty: I’d agree. Surely Rio would be a better choice. I’d also Lampard ahead of Keane but that’s a personal choice
@Jason Clifford: Vidic
@Jason Clifford: would u have compare Keane and Lampard ? If ur taking Keane out only player that could be considered is Vieira
@Simon Doherty: Sol Campbell should be in this team ahead of Kompany.
@Jason Clifford: if you play Lampard you have to drop a striker. You would be recreating the same problem as the English’s “golden generation”.
@Simon Doherty: Tony Adams in for Kompany
Wouldn’t have Giggs in the team I think he is so overrated. His longevity made him great but I don’t think has ever been the outstanding players for united in one given year never mind in the league. I’d have players like Pires as better wingers than him but over shorter period of course. Giggs at his peak against at his peak Pires I’d have Pires.
@Tomas Rooney: but he’s right though.
@Tomas Rooney: name one season where Giggs was the outstanding player for United ?
@Irishoversea: 98/98
@Barry O’Brien: united won nothing in 1998
@Irishoversea: I agree. Great career and a good player but one of the best? No.
@Irishoversea: 98/99 he meant and it wasnt for giggs cantona wouldnt have been as god as he was
@Irishoversea: I’d go along with a lot of that team with maybe just a few exceptions. Kompany is the obvious one but I’d also add that Irwin and Cole were both left backs. OK you can say that Irwin could also play at right back but that wasn’t his position so you can’t say he was the best ever in that position. Speaking with my United bias I’d have Irwin ahead of Cole as LB but that still leaves a vacancy at RB.
@Irishoversea:
@ciananto: Giggs was a great player very consistent, maybe a case for bale.
Eric Cantona not even on the bench?
No Bergkamp either….utter $hite
@Ruairí Mul: He did his best work in among the fans
Only 1 striker on bench.. Sure Rooney only has 16 medals and all time manchester united top scorer has to worth a mention..
@Darren Breathnach: Shrek was overrated
Schmeichel should be in goal. Kompany what a joke….plays a dozen games a season, give me Paul Mcgrath any day
@Paddy Lawlor: Mcgrath or Bruce for Kompany
@Paddy Lawlor: Scmeichel, Seaman in goal. Adams , McGarth , Bruce, Pallister over Kompany
@running man: Bruce!!
Bergkamp for the subs bench.
Ferdinand in place of Kompany
Tony Adams
Rory Delay, those long throws !
@Zossima: takes too long.
no cantona probably one of the best players of the premier league era
@Paddy Dunne11: Cantona’s genius has been added to over time. Yes, he was a very good player, and had a big effect on United at the time, but nostalgia has blown him up into something more than he was. Part of this is down to the fact that there were so few flair players around at the time.
@William Boland: Fergusons said he bought Cantona to win the league and Keane to win Europe. Says it all really
I think Vidic and Vieira deserve a worthy mention. Great players.
@Brian Gibbons: Can’t have Keane and Vieira in same team, too similar, def have Vieira on the bench though
This article lost all credibility when ye put in Kompany, i mean kompany is decent, but should even be spoken in the same breath as Paul McGrath #OohAhh
Amazed there wasn’t a Vidic/Rio CB partnership. Actually one of the better all time XIs I’ve seen. A City player should be included, and Yaya, Silva and Aguero have too much competition. Zabaleta at right back might have been a better pick to include a City player. Gerrard or Lampard for Scholes and you’re golden. I’d have to have Schmeichel over Cech though.
@Leon: Have to disagree and I’m saying this as a Pool fan,Scholes is a far superior midfielder than Gerrard or Lampard,what Iniesta,Xavi,Modric have done for their teams over the past decade Scholes did it for two. I’d also put Xavi Alonso above Gerard and Lampard as midfielders.
Stam??
Giggs???? I’d have bergkamp or overmars in there any day of the week. Stam over Kompany
Rio Ferdinand has 14 major trophies, 6 premier league titles, 1 champions league, over 80 England appearances incl 3 world cups. Without doubt the most intelligent and skilled defender ever to grace the premier league. Only Stam and McGrath come close. Maybe Desailly. Kompany, Terry and Vidic ahead of him? Please.
Irwin to left back and neville right back .
Shocked to see that kompany could make that team. He’s been a great player for city but he’s also been the best of a bad bunch both at city and in the current era. There has been a real shortage of quality central defenders in the league for a long time. I would agree that terry should make it for his on the pitch qualities but the guy is still a c u next Tuesday
Rio in for Konpany and Gerrard for scholes, other than that can’t fault that team, especially happy to see Irwin in place of Neville
@El Johno: gerard should be the water boy . Scholes so far ahead
@El Johno: it would seem the criteria here is longevity and having a PL winner’s medal. Cantona was only at United for 4 and a half seasons (4 if you take his long suspension into account) and Gerrard never won the PL. In fact Gerrard is the only player in the whole squad without a PL winner’s medal. The only question that remains is why are there no Leicester players in the squad? :-)
Peter Smichael……Best keeper by a mile…
Ronaldo one of the greatest ever in general but he never makes it into a greatest PL XI for 3 good seasons as incredible as at least 2 of those seasons were. Longevity and so on has to be taken into account and what he did at Madrid can’t be counted towards his PL stature.
How did Roy Keane make it in there?
@Joe McNamara: It says under his name in the article
@Joe McNamara: quiet easily I would of thought !
@Joe McNamara: Maybe because he was/is the best midfielder ever in premier league..
@Joe McNamara: ah man you’re taking the mikey now surely
@Will Oxley: The 2 best players in Premier League history are Roy Keane and Alan Shearer! Keane made things very handy for Paul Scholes beside him.
@James Quinn: Agree. Keane and Shearer def 1 and 2. Imagine them in the same team….
Agreed Keane was unreal, he was so good defensively that scholes only needed to worry about attacking, the best cm partnership ever bar none
@James Quinn: wouldn’t entirely agree there James. Scholes went on to play for United for 5/6 years, into his mid and late 30s AFTER Keane had left the club. He was well able to look after himself (as his poor disciplinary record shows) and did not need Keane to act as his “minder” on the pitch.
@Sloop John G:Played longer than Keane because he did’nt have as many injuries. The way Keane played was bound to catch up on him,100% commited every game every tackle,won tackles he had no right to win, Scholes not type of player, though he was still class; Keane maybe not his minder, but definetly looked after him.
“Four league title winners’ medals is hard to argue with, as is over 400 appearances in England’s top flight”. Cech is a top keeper but I would have thought Schmeichel’s Five League title winners’ medals, 3 FA Cup winner’s medals, 1 League Cup winner’s medal and 1 Champions League winner’s medal would be even harder to argue with.
Always find these posts interesting!its always past players who have retired and obviously longevity is a go way to measure a player!!the likes of bale and modric never get mentioned xabi alonso I know now retired toure and aguero and hazard are in that argument also!
@kellser1977: Ramon Vega deserves a shout as does Alan Hutton
@kellser1977: now that was a player.
@John Ryan: John, not to forget George weah cousin.
@funkytown: ali dia. A legend
Drogba on the bench surely
Vieira was a better player than Scholes but it’s not the popular thing to say.
@Paul Kennedy: it’s not the popular thing to say because it’s not true.
Schmeichel over Cech. Zola over Agueiro on the bench.
No Viera or Adams… scholes not good enough nor Giggs. Schmeicel has to be goalie
@conor murphy: Scholes not good enough?? He was the best United player of the Premier League era ffs.
@michaelor: Well; behind Keane of course….
Where is Zola.
I think having Kompany in there is ridiculous but, otherwise a very strong team!
Typical Man Utd fans team.
Where’s bendtner
No Bergkamp or Pires. Tut tut
Where is the black pearl of Inchicore.
Just too many good players. Better to split it into 2 teams
Rooney not even on the bench. Are you having a laugh? Kompany gtfo.
Where are all the Liverpool players?
Pointless exercise. You could line up three or four best XIs and it would be hard to pick a winner amongst them.
Not too shabby at all BUT VIDIC has to make it in!
Wake up ! This team is only a sxxt stuttering exercise ? No bebe in team
Surely Wayne Rooney deserves to be on the bench at least
No Bergkamp is a disgrace, should be in the team ahead of Shearer, Vieira who captained the invincibles has to be in that midfield although it’s hard to oust Keane or Scholes after all their success. Pires, Ljungberg, Lauren, Suarez, Torres, Rooney, Zola all deserve a mention. Kompany very lucky to be in he squad never mind the starting line up with the likes of Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Vidic and even Kolo Toure achieving more!
Simon Doherty: They should have put your cousin Gary in the team….
Cole and Giggs on the same flank. They’d concede a shite load down that wing.
