CHAMPIONS LIMERICK ARE out in front with 14 nominations for the 2020 Pwc All-Stars after the hurling shortlist was revealed today.
John Kiely’s side claimed victories in league, Munster and All-Ireland finals last year with their players the largest county representation in this year’s list of hurling nominees.
Eight counties in total have players in the frame with ten from beaten finalists Waterford and then come All-Ireland semi-finalists Galway (7) and Kilkenny (5).
Brian Lohan’s Clare team have four involved with two apiece from Cork and Tipperary while Dublin’s Donal Burke is the representative from the capital.
Five players from the 2019 All-Star hurling team are nominated in Limerick duo Seán Finn and Aaron Gillane, Tipperary’s Ronan Maher, and the Kilkenny pair of Pádraig Walsh and TJ Reid.

Limerick deserve the lot. I’d sneak in Daithi Burke as bar his literal slip against Callanan he is faultless. Cathal Mannion would have a strong case for midfield. I think Morrisey should be in the running for Hurler of the year
@Finnster: Limerick deserve the lot? The only player deserving without a doubt is Tony Kelly from Clare.
@Finnster: Mind you don’t fall off that fence there chief.
@Finnster: I like your thinking;)
Are they telling us already that Tony Kelly will be Midfield with no room for Will O’D? Which would be a travesty.. Before anyone @s me I’d have TK corner forward…
@John Carroll: it’s a bit strange that TK is nominated as a midfielder but didn’t really play there at all this year.
@Eoghan O’Leary: Cian Lynch, Will O’Donoghue, Jamie Barron, Tony Kelly – I’d possibly have had all four of them getting All-Stars, two will not now!
@Diarmuid O Donnchadha: I thought the same thing. Kelly could very easily be left out but the fact that he is nominated for POTY more than likely means he will get an all star.
@Eoghan O’Leary: played entire league, full game vs Limerick and laois and alternated between midfield and forwards for the remaining two games.
@Brian Clancy: at midfield I should have stated. He is the only certainty for a midfield place the only question is who should partner him. For me it should be odonoghue
@Brian Clancy: Totally agree. Kelly and O Donoghue for me
Any love for Brian Concannon lads? Had a breakthrough year for us and deserving of a little recognition. Burke and Mannion in defense and the Waterford goalie deserve their places. Beyond that probably Limerick domination.
@John Quinn: Concannon def be in my reckoning tbh,Burke also but that would be about it. Don’t see where Mannion gets in, Quaid for keeper, no other consistent keeper than him for past few yrs. Absolute ace from the puckouts, very underrated.
@Now or Never: My team would be
Quaid
Finn
Morrissey
Burke
Byrnes
De Burca
Hayes
Kelly
O Donoghue
Hegarty
Reid
Morrissey
Concannon
Gillane
Bennett.
Tough calls on Lynch, Barron, C Mannion, O Keefe who were very close too
@Limerick2018: that team won’t be far off the All-star one, fairly spot on tbh. Some tough calls to be made either way, Lynch will be the debatable one tbh
@Limerick2018: yep ! spot on kid
Cian Lynch and Tony Kelly player most of year in half forward line. Lynch as great hurler as he is prob should miss out to O Donoghue.
Waterfords Calum Lyons, de Burca and Bennett are surely guaranteed. A toss up between SOK and Quaid for the goalkeeper award too I reckon
@Fellainis Fro: who u moving from that half black line to accommodate Lyons? Bcos it would be a travesty if Byrnes, absolutely nailed on, is moved, and Hayes has been a revelation this year. De Burca deserves his spot 100%, Bennett also. Think Lyons misses out, great year for him personally too tho,be harsh.
Who has the best chance for Young Hurler of the year?
@Tom Turnip: is Shane Conway too old to be young hurling player
Trollier for Dublin? Hello?!?!
Almost certainly Lynch & Kelly in midfield. Very tough on O’Donoghue, who was also ahead of Barron imo.
@Tom Turnip:
Quaid,
Finn, D Morrissey, Burke,
Byrnes, De Búrca, Hayes,
Lynch, Kelly,
Hegarty, Reid, T Morrissey,
Concannon, Gillane, Bennett.
