Follow Friday: It's James 'don't call me John' McClean

HASHTAG BIG GAME the mara.

As a regular Friday trend, it hasn’t quite caught fire yet, but it surely will if James McClean keeps going the way he’s going.

“Big game the ‘mara” is the rallying call of the Republic of Ireland’s newest call-up.

Scrolling back through his tweets doesn’t read like a manifesto, it’s more like eavesdropping on his friendship with fellow Irish footballers, David Meyler and Shane Duffy.

What comes across most in McClean’s stream is the unbridled pride he will take when he eventually pulls on the jersey for his country.

He was a great knack too of forcing his accent into 140 characters too. Of course sometimes that makes him as difficult to understand as… a thick Derry accent.
