PAUL COOKE, AN outspoken critic of the Football Association of Ireland, has been appointed to a sub-committee of the FAI Board with immediate effect, it has been confirmed.
The sub-committee has been tasked with overseeing ongoing investigations and procedures at the FAI.
Cooke, a former Director with Waterford United as well as a chartered accountant who has worked as CEO of the Irish Daily Star and the Sunday Business Post newspapers, has been nominated unopposed for vacant position of Honorary Treasurer.
Cooke will join President Donal Conway and Board members Niamh O’Donoghue, Eamonn Naughton, Paraic Treanor and Noel Fitzroy on the sub-committee.
“Paul Cooke’s experience in the media industry and in business, coupled with his acumen as a chartered accountant, is a valuable addition to our sub-committee,” said Conway.
“I look forward to working with the Board of the FAI on this sub-committee and I am confident that my business and financial background will be an asset to the processes underway at the FAI,” added Cooke.
Cooke has been one of the few members of the FAI Council to ask critical questions of the association at their annual AGMs and in a recent Sunday Times interview said the organisation’s former CEO John Delaney had been “given too much power”.
Significant change is expected to be initiated within the association after a series of recent controversies.

Good man
Some player in his day. Was an outstanding kicker and playmaker and was a big hitter too to top it off. Was probably why he was injured so much.
Common in a lot of sportspeople with that all or nothing mentality. When they reach their lofty goals they’re left with an empty feeling. Good to hear he’s in a better place now.
Could be absolutely metronomic in his kicking. Class player. Good, honest piece!
In the words of Kevin Bridges “Did ye aye?”
I really feel for American college football players. Washed up at what, 22?
As a Irish man what a player and golden era of England 2000/2003 used to love watching England and copying Jonny Wilkinson kick technique.
Class player.
Probably just hungry
Paradise Syndrome.

@Mícheál Moran: his performance against Ireland in the 6N in 2003 was unreal . Ireland hammered him , he went off for treatment four times , each time he moved further and further back and cut ireland apart , dropping goals etc . Bracken the same that day . The both of them were smashed time after time and brushed it off . Then to think that JW played the whole 2003 RWC final with a broken collarbone . An awesome competitor .
