Creightonโs ride The Walrus was competing in a 1200 metre race at Warrnambool, when the hoop fell with about 300m to go.
Victorian Jockeys Association president Des OโKeeffe revealed the signs were positive, after Creighton had been put in an induced coma following the fall.
โOverall itโs positive that heโs now conscious and responsive,โ OโKeeffe said, according to Racing.com.
โHis head injury responded well overnight and he underwent surgery on his left wrist this morning, which was all fairly straightforward.
โThere will be another update on Monday morning but at this stage all the signs are very positive.โ
Creighton remains in the intensive care unit at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
