NEXT YEAR’S UNITED States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, looks set to be axed from the Formula 1 calendar, according to Bernie Ecclestone.
It recently emerged that the contract between Ecclestone and promoter Tavo Hellmund had been torn up, while track developers, Circuit of The Americas (COTA), halted construction on Wednesday amid accusations that they had never been provided a contract by Formula 1.
This angered Ecclestone, who says that he was not prepared to issue a contract without a letter of credit stating that COTA were financially viable.
“We’ve done everything we bloody well can do to make this race happen,” Ecclestone blasted.
He was then asked if the USGP would be dropped when the World Motor Sport Council meets to ratify the final 2012 calendar in New Delhi on 7 December.
“Yes, it will be, for sure, 100%,” he responded.
Don’t try and bluff BCE. With the New Jersey race F1 does not need Texas any more
