THE PHOENIX SUNS created some NBA history this weekend, when one of their players scored 70 points in a single game.
20-year-old guard Devin Booker became the first player in over a decade, and just the sixth player of all time, to reach this personal tally.
Kobe Bryant was previously the last player to achieve the feat, when he hit 81 points in January 2006.
Booker’s exhibition of scoring also made him the youngest player in NBA history to surpass the 60-point mark, although his side still went down 130-120 against the Boston Celtics on Friday night.
In a 45-minute display, he landed 51 points after half-time, including 28 in the final quarter.
A delighted Booker later told ESPN: “This doesn’t happen very often. Especially against a really good defensive team like the Boston Celtics. I knew I was going to have to come in, lock in mentally tonight — playing at Boston isn’t easy all the time.
“They made it tough for me in the first half, and I tried to get it going. I was ultra-aggressive. My teammates started finding me, they started setting really good screens for me, and the rest is history.”
