KERRYโS DAVID MORAN will not know until next week what damage he has suffered to his eye after a freak accident in a challenge match against Laois on Saturday.
The 25 year-old sustained the blow after catching a kickout in a game where he had been introduced as a substitute.
Kingdom selector Diarmuid Murphy confirmed last night to TheScore.ie that Moran underwent a laser procedure on his eye in Cork University Hospital on Sunday after suffering a tear to his retina.
Moran, who has torn his cruciate twice in the last two years and sustained a shoulder injury earlier this season, must now wait to discover the extent of the injury.
โIt was a freak thing and he just got a bang straight on the eye ball,โ outlined Murphy.
โHe caught a kickout and a fella tried to dislodge the ball out of his hands. The retina was torn really. He had a laser procedure as thatโs less invasive than surgery.
โItโll become clear in about a week to 10 days exactly how it went. He goes back in next week and they have a look at it again. Itโs a freak injury really. It could happen to any body at any time. He was just unlucky.โ
Moran is definitely ruled out of Kerryโs Munster championship tie with Tipperary on Sunday week in Thurles. But Murphy backed the Kerins OโRahillyโs club man to bounce back.
โItโs a pity for him. But this isnโt the end of the year for him really. The best case scenario is that he wonโt be out of action for too long and heโll be back soon enough.
โHeโs put in a huge amount of work in getting himself back right. He was finding a bit of form and hopefully heโll be back in action again soon.โ
