CLARE FULL-BACK David McInerney has been described as ‘a major doubt’ ahead of Saturday week’s All-Ireland senior hurling quarter-final against Tipperary.
McInerney injured his hamstring in training on Tuesday and the Clare management have revealed that he is doubtful as a result for the battle with the All-Ireland senior champions.
The Tulla player will be assessed on an ongoing basis before the game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Clare’s defensive replacement options include Crusheen’s Cian Dillon and Inagh-Kilnamona’s Jason McCarthy, who both came on as a substitute in last Sunday’s Munster final in Thurles.
The experienced defensive duo of Brendan Bugler and Pat Donnellan were both on the bench last Sunday.
A key cog on the Clare team that won the 2013 All-Ireland title, McInerney won an All-Star that same year. He has claimed two All-Ireland U21 medals with Clare as well in 2012 and 2013.
