Sidelined - Limerick hurler David Breen to miss rest of league due to knee operation

The 28 year-old is to correct a long-standing injury.

LIMERICK HURLER DAVID Breen is set to be sidelined for the remainder of the league as he gets set to undergo a knee operation.

Breen will go under the knife this week to correct a long-standing problem in the wake of his club Na Piarsaighโ€™s recent All-Ireland semi-final defeat.

He will  not be involved in the remainder of Limerickโ€™s Division 1B hurling campaign as a result with ties looming against Wexford, Offaly and Laois in March.

โ€œIt is something that I have been putting off for a couple of seasons now but with one season rolling into the next between club and county, I said now is the right time to get it down.

โ€œIt is just a chronic kind of knee injury that has been going on for a while. It is swelling up a lot, then going down and swelling up again. When you are in the gym and on the pitch you are not really giving it a chance. I am just getting a knee scope done.

โ€œI think you will be talking about late April by the time I am back and just from a personal point of view as well there is a lot of driving up and down from Dublin and I need a break from that. That has been kept going by Na Piarsaigh so I need to take a bit of time out.โ€

Super clubs are a big problem in Dublin. Southside clubs with huge catchment areas and one Northside club with a relatively small catchment area, encroaching on several other clubs areas, whilst establishing themselves as one of the biggest clubs in the country.
