Mick McCarthy considering a move for the League of Ireland's best player

The Ipswich Town boss is reportedly running the rule over Dundalk star Daryl Horgan.

CHAMPIONSHIP OUTFIT IPSWICH Town are reportedly considering a move for Dundalk star Daryl Horgan.

Horganโ€™s form for the Lilywhites in the League of Ireland and Europa League has catapulted him onto the radar of Ireland manager Martin Oโ€™Neill, who has been to watch the midfielder on a number of occasions.

And The Irish Sun asserts that Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy had his scouts run the rule over the 24-year-old during Dundalkโ€™s recent 2-1 win over Cork City, in which he scored a superb solo goal, with a view to potentially recruiting him in January.

Horgan, who was named SSE Airtricty/SWAI Player of the Month for September this month, previously had trials with Peteborough United, Barnsley and Torquay, but admitted that he has benefited from staying at Dundalk.

โ€œIโ€™ve got to play constantly here in the first team and in the Europa League and winning leagues. Itโ€™s been special the last couple of years,โ€ Horgan said in an interview with Newstalkโ€™s Off The Ball last night.

โ€œI thought they went well, but a couple of weeks after both trials, managers were sacked. Itโ€™s so cut-throat.

โ€œYou could easily end up signing for a club and the manager could be sacked two days later, another fella might come in and not fancy you, so it was probably a blessing.โ€
