DARREN RANDOLPH IS adamant that Ireland can recover from the bitter disappointment of Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to Denmark at the Aviva Stadium.
The defeat in the play-off second leg in Dublin, which followed a goalless draw in Copenhagen on Saturday, cost Martin O’Neill’s side a place at next year’s World Cup in Russia.
In spite of such a heavy defeat, Randolph was one of his side’s top performers over the course of the tie against the Danes. After being Ireland’s man of the match in the first leg, he made several more excellent saves on Tuesday.
According to a defiant message posted on Instagram this morning, the Middlesbrough goalkeeper said Ireland have been written off but they’ll bounce back from this disappointment.
The 30-year-old also wished Denmark the best in next summer’s tournament, as well as thanking the Irish supporters for their backing throughout the campaign.
“Absolutely gutted to have been knocked out of the World Cup but proud to have been a part of the journey with the group of players that were written off so many times,” Randolph posted.
“We’ve had some great times together [in] the last couple of years and we’ll be back. People have very short memories! Best of luck to Denmark in Russia also.
“Just want to thank everyone for the support, home and away. Always great to see a sea of green inside and out of the stadium, home or away.”
I remember them throwin first place away against Georgia, so my memory ain’t that bad. Wouldn’t fault Randolph though, he kept us in a lot of games
good keeper Randolph. Deserves to be in the Premier league
They threw the group away, Wales down to 10 men, couldn’t finish them off, draw at home to Austria, draw away to Georgia and beaten by Serbia out of those matches we where really unlucky against Serbia, but we should have won the group! Some backroom staff what do they all do! Brady / Hendrick have hide the whole group!
Tried your best kid
“…. People have very short memories!..” Of course they do, that’s football for you. It’s a results business.
Another lecture from a multi millionaire to the working classes who’ve forked out hard earned money to go and see crap like That, himself and McLean would make you sick…. they have achieved nothing and make it sound like they’re doing the fans a favour by lining out ….
@blueman79: Wha? Randolph is hardly a multi-millionaire
@Noel Ryan: I would say he is… how long has he been a professional now ?
Good to hear the players coming out fighting. Stupid and short-sighted to go after them or MON. Problems in Irish football go much deeper than that.
@Is mise muc gránna: in my anger I messed up my comment,AGAIN. ALL THE ABOVE APPLIES TO YOU,TENFOLD
