IT HAS BEEN confirmed that Monaghan star Darren Hughes was sent off for ruffling Tiernán McCann’s hair in the All-Ireland senior football quarter-final.
Farney officials have received confirmation that referee Marty Duffy reported Hughes for ‘striking with the hand’ and he will sit out the first round of the 2016 Allianz League if a one-match ban sticks.
But Monaghan have confirmed to the Irish News that they have submitted a request to GAA chiefs to have the controversial red card rescinded.
A date for the hearing has yet to be confirmed.
Hughes, meanwhile, took the chance to troll McCann last week as Mayo star Aidan O’Shea responded to fellow social media users during the course of an AIB questions and answers session.
That’s not bad but we still think the original is best:
Why does Darren Hughes think it’s acceptable to feel up other players, his F acting cost his county maybe he should shut his mouth and keep his head down, instead of trying to make himself out to be some victim. The messing on twitter shows what an absolute bellend he is.
He got sent off in the 70th minute when his team were down by 4 points. I don’t think his red card cost Monaghan the game.
No but shows were his concentration is though. So Aideen I if came over to you and starting rubbing ya what you you think, and no it’s not different.
‘and no it’s not different’?! Eh yes, yes it is, very different.
First of all, ruffling someone’s hair is neither rubbing someone or feeling them up.
Secondly if you came over to me and started ‘rubbing me’ you’d feel the palm of my hand across your face and my knee between your legs, then again I have no idea who you are, I think if you were to go up to anyone you’d never met before and started ‘rubbing’ them they’d do the same.
McCann and Hughes however, knew each other well.
how did they know each other well? mccann has only gotten into the tyrone team so they may have played each other a handful of times at best..
Ah you’re just nit-picking now Michael. They’d played against each other for 70 mins. They weren’t strangers. You know how you often hear commentators saying ‘they’re getting to know each other well out there’. I meant the same.
Dave tried to tell me that Hughes ‘rubbing’ McCann would be no different to him coming up to me (a total stranger) and doing the same.
yeah i was nit picking i understand what ye mean.. as for the strangers bit ita a bit different on a field. . still stupid though
In your eyes it might be different but it’s still putting your hands on a person in an unwelcome way, it’s the same no matter the context, even more unwelcome when it has nothing to do with football or sport.
by the way.. he can have a got at mccann all he wants but it doesnt change the fact on their day they couldn’t match tyrone.. i doubt ill be saying the same this sunday though!
