GALWAY’S MINOR ALL-IRELAND winning manager Daniel Moynihan will take charge of the county’s senior ladies football team for 2024.
Galway LGFA announced the news on social media this afternoon.
“At last night’s county board meeting Daniel Moynihan was ratified as the new Senior inter-county manager,” a Facebook post reads.
“Daniel is originally from Ballinasloe and is the son of the Connacht LGFA President Con Moynihan. Daniel has been the manager of the Galway minors for the last two years, winning the All-Ireland this season. Galway LGFA would like to wish Daniel and his backroom team the very best in the future.”
Moynihan succeeds Mághnus Breathnach and Fiona Wynne at the helm. The duo filled the void left by Gerry Fahy amidst a tumultuous start to the 2022 campaign, steadied the ship and oversaw back-to-back All-Ireland quarter-finals and a Division 1 league final appearance.
Kerry blew the Tribe away in the Croke Park showpiece after their bright start to 2023, and they struggled to recover, while the 2019 All-Ireland finalists’ championship campaigns under Breathnach and Wynne were ended by Meath and Mayo respectively.
Backboned by All-Ireland club champions Kilkerrin-Clonberne, they’ll hope to push on next year.
Nigel Walsh (Kilconly) takes the minor vacancy left by Moynihan.

The Ballinasloe man is one of several new managers on the ladies football senior inter-county scene for 2024. Meath (Shane McCormack), Armagh (Gregory McGonigle) and Laois (Tom Devereux and Billy Kiernan) have recently announced changes, with positions yet to be filled in Donegal and Mayo.
All-Ireland senior champions Dublin (Mick Bohan), Kerry (Declan Quill and Darragh Long) and Kildare (Diane O’Hora) are among those to have confirmed continuity for next season.
How was Porter not nominated. The stand out scrummager and ball carrier.

I think having the public vote is unfair, it means England will probably win it on the basis of having a bigger population and just a case of blind voting.

I know World rugby like to spread the candidates by nation but I feel 1 player isn’t enough, Porter and Ryan had to also been in the running and I’m only naming a few!
He may have shine in a few games but he’s far from our best player.. Was terrible during the 6 nations, in fact was dropped and very average for Lansdowne 20s this season
The 6 nations isn’t relevant in a player of the tournament poll.
It’s an award for player of the tournament , therefore how he played during the 6 nations or for Lansdowne is irrelevant

But he’s not been nominated for his six nations performances…This is for the world championship….where he’s been ireland stand out player.if you say he hasn’t had a great season does that not make his performances all the better?
