Conal Keaney cleared of allegedly stamping on Limerick's Cian Lynch

Good news for the Dublin hurlers ahead of Sunday’s semi-final.

DUBLIN WILL HAVE Conal Keaney available for this Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League semi-final against Cork.

Keaney was in line for an enforced spell on the sidelines after the Central Competitions Control Committee opted to review an incident that took place in Dublin’s recent win over Limerick at Croke Park.

The Dublin player appeared to stamp on Limerick’s Cian Lynch but referee Diarmuid Kirwan didn’t take action during the game, which prompted the CCCC to investigate further.

However, the GAA have confirmed this evening that Keaney will face no further disciplinary action, leaving him free to line out for the Dubs at Nowlan Park this weekend as they aim to reach their first league final since 2011.

The GAA’s Central Hearings Committee “found that the infraction as alleged was not proven and directed that the disciplinary action be at an end”.

I’m a limerick man and I think it was unavoidable to be honest, looked bad in real time though.

Conal Keaney is not a dirty Hurler and should be given the benefit of the doubt .

    I thought it was accidental.

Limerick fell while being closely flanked by the Dublin guy and it was just unavoidable.

Glad the Limerick guy was ok and that chap wasn’t sanctioned.

You could see from a slow motion replay it was unavoidable. He got caught in Lynch’s feet and lost his balance. There were a few lads on Twitter baying for his blood, calling him every name under the sun and hounding Des Cahill to bring it up on his radio show. Massive overreaction.

He’s not that kind of player as showcased during the Tipperary game when he went out of his way to check on a player he collided with at half time. Glad Lynch is OK too. He could have come off a lot worse.

Looked intentional and horrendous at the time but not in his nature, seems an honest hard working player so benefit of the doubt on this one. The only niggle is that he applied serious pressure on the foot but in saying that could still have had no other option. It’s been reviewed and there is no case so I’m ok accepting that.

An outrageous decision typical of the Gaa oh our lads aren’t like that. If this was Suarez in a soccer match there would be outrage. The42 didn’t bother showing the incident at the time and is missing from article above.

It’s not missing from the article above, there’s a link to it at the start of the 3rd paragraph.

It looked bad to me. People are saying it was unavoidable, but at look at the way in which Keaney’s foot goes down, with real force. That’s not a natural landing, it’s a stamping.
