LIAM OโKEEFFEโS ninth-minute goal proved the difference between the sides as CIT claimed a three-point victory against DCU in the All-Ireland Freshers Hurling Final.
OโKeeffeโs strike was a fitting way to win any match; he buried the ball on the volley to the back of the DCU net.
DCU started the brighter of the sides as they went into 0-2 to 0-0 lead after two minutes of play. But the teams were soon level as the home side started to settle through OโKeeffe, who went on to tally 1-7 for the day.
OโKeeffeโs goal followed soon afterwards as CIT took command.
Quick-fire points from Gary Tynan and Aaron Maddock put DCU within a point but that was close as they got in the opening half as OโKeeffe and Robert Long kept the scoreboard ticking over for CIT.
DCU finished the half still in touch though, a Paul Kelly score just before the break left the Dublin college just three points in arrears, 1-6 to 0-6.
CIT began the second half with three unanswered points to put the Cork college six points in front.
But DCU didnโt give up as three points from Tynan had DCU back in the match.
