Cork and Belfast will host next year's Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cup final weekends

CIT and Jordanstown are the hosts for the 2016 third-level deciders.

THE 2016 FITZGIBBON and Sigerson Cup final weekends will be held in Cork and Belfast.

Cork IT will host the Fitzgibbon Cup final for only the second time and the first since 2008. The premier third-level hurling competition was last hosted in 2012 when UCC saw off CIT in the final.

And the Sigerson Cup will be held in Belfast with UUJ hosting the competition for the first time since 1993. The Sigerson Cup was held in Belfast two years ago when Queen’s University hosted the finale.

CIT have never won the Fitzgibbon Cup and lost out at the semi-final stage this year against Waterford IT.

“Since 2005, we have hosted the ladies football and camogie intervarsities twice and the Fitzgibbon in 2008 and Sigerson in 2009,” outlined CIT GAA officer Keith Ricken.

“The institute is very committed to the development of our national games and delighted to support the student GAA club.”

Jordanstown last lifted the Sigerson Cup in 2008. They have come up short recently losing out in the 2014 final against UCC and in the opening round this year against DCU.

UL won the Fitzgibbon Cup this year after a replay with a final victory over Waterford IT in a game that was played in Páirc Uí Rinn after Limerick IT had been the weekend final hosts. DCU won the Sigerson Cup against UCC at the Mardyke in Cork.

Fair call JJ. I am openly challenging Dennapa Bigshotcamp to see who can make the best ring entrance.

Monte Barrett made a similar ring entrance a few years ago against David Haye – YouTube it, it’s even more funny than this one I think.
