Chambers makes hay as the Hoops shine in Cork

A late Shane Duggan goal wasn’t enough to rescue a point for the home side.

TWO GOALS EITHER side of half time were enough to secure all three points for Shamrock Rovers at a sun drenched Turner’s Cross on Sunday.

The game started with a massive round of applause in honour of former Cork City boss Noel O’Mahony who passed away recently.

It was the visiting side who got off to the brighter start with both Karl Sheppard and Billy Dennehy threatening but without making any clear cut chances.

However, their pressure finally told when James Chambers fired home a long range effort four minutes before the break.

Rovers almost made it 2-0 just 90 seconds later but Kevin Burns’ finger tip save denied Karl Sheppard from close range.

However, the Hoops did double their lead just a minute after the restart when Ronan Finn pounced on a loose ball in the City box before bundling the ball home via the post.

The visitors remained in control for most of the second half and could have made it 3-0 late in the game but Ciaran Kilduff’s glancing header went just wide.

Shane Duggan gave Cork some hope when he capitalised on a mistake by the Rovers ‘keeper with two minutes left.

However, Tommy Dunne’s side were unable to muster another chance in the three minutes of added time and it’s Rovers who move on to 24 points ahead of the visit of Limerick on Friday evening.

Cork remain in eighth spot on 17 points.

What’s gick? The filthy bang off ur breath? Certainly not Rovers performance today. But why am I bothering replying to a most likely bedsit dwelling friendless specimen who never attended a live sports event. Go back to ur porn stash under ur damp mushroom ridden bed. I’m on my way back to Dublin with 3 points in the bag!

    Hi Mr. Garrisson,

Please take a minute to examine our comments policy: http://www.thejournal.ie/comments-policy/

This is the second League of Ireland thread in two days in which your comments have been brought to our attention.

Please try and refrain from being provocative for the sake of it and derailing the topic thread which, in this case, is Shamrock Rovers win over Cork.

    Many thanks,

Why not jog on back to London and support Chelski every week. I ve a Mate from London who s a Hammers fan. He s living here now for work reasons and comes every week with me to support Rovers. Try attending some games and build up an allegiance to some L.O.I. Club instead of running our league . Who knows maybe some Russian Oligarch will pump millions into one of our clubs and people outside of Ireland will finally know us? Just like with ur club
