CELTIC PASSED UP the chance to claim a seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Hibernian.
Jamie MacLaren got Neil Lennon’s side up and running after 24 minutes, before second half substitute Vykintas Slivka put the hosts two goals to the good with ten minutes remaining.
A tidy finish from Odsonne Edouard three minutes from time looked like potentially sparking a late, great comeback.
However his strike proved a consolation as the league leaders look to next Sunday’s meeting with rivals Rangers to clinch the title.
Were results elsewhere to go in their favour, Celtic could still be crowned champions this weekend but know they can make sure of a seventh straight Scottish Premiership in that Glasgow derby in a weeks’ time.
“I thought the best team won,” the Hoops manager said afterwards.
“I thought Hibs were better than us on the day. We started very well and had good intensity but we didn’t defend well enough, so that was a disappointment.
“We didn’t play quick enough and we gave two poor goals away.
“We had five opportunities (to clinch the title) and now its down to four. Your last five games are always going to be tough, it was a tough one today and we’ve come out on the wrong side of the result.
“Now we have to get ready and look to do it next week.”

Hibs fully deserved their win today. Celtic were poor.
Scott Sinclair needs let go at the end of the season. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a downturn from a player. Came on in the second half and didn’t do a single good thing.
@Ciaran Rice: you have a cheek to have a go at arsenal fans whenever you are turning on your former player of the year???
@Mel Roberts: who said I’m turning on him? He has my full support when he pulls on the jersey. Relax, it’s not like I’m demonstrating in the stands to have him sacked.
@Ciaran Rice: I was very much Wenger in and gutted that he’s leaving, I don’t control what other fans do.
Saying a player needs let go doesn’t sound to me like giving a player full support to me. He obviously misses Rosie Webster while he’s living up north and she’s having another kid, didn’t turn into a bad player overnight.
@Mel Roberts: it’s quite obvious that he’s not up to it. He has been found out by the SPFLs defenders and they are able to nullify him every time.
I doubt he is enjoying sitting on the bench this season so I’m sure he will already be thinking that it is best for him to leave.
@Ciaran Rice: found out hahaha aye the likes of Efe Ambrose are world beaters alright.
@Mel Roberts: Efe Ambrose is as much of a world beater as anyone in Arsenal’s team. Ambrose is also a centre back.
If you’d watched Scott Sinclair for the last 6 months you would see that he has been nullified by almost every right back he has come up against.
One of a couple of bad performances this year ? Hibs the better team ? Lennon had the measure of Celtic , too many players with a lack lustre attitude today . Hibs might just get ahead of the Ger’s now ??
