DUBLIN LEGEND BRIAN Mullins has rejected suggestions that Jim Gavin has overhauled the countyโs style of play since taking over as manager this season.
Dublinโs progression to next Sundayโs All-Ireland final has been defined by some stunning attacking displays.
Yet Mullins argues against the theory that they are now more susceptible to conceding scores in defence than they were under the watch of Pat Gilroy.
โI donโt buy into this theme that he has changed things. I think he is playing more or less the same way the Dublin team did for the last three or four years.
โI think when Bryan Cullen was fit and playing well two years ago he was as hard a working hard forward as Paul Flynn.
โThe suggestion anecdotally, locally was one of the reasons why Pat Gilroy put Alan and Bernard Brogan through a period of not picking them was because they didnโt work hard enough when Dublin lost games.
โSo I think all the Dublin forwards now as part of the team tactic are working hard back, chasing back or tracking back.โ
Mullins has hailed the determination that Gavin displays in his management style.
โIโd say determination is one of Jimโs strengths alright. Heโs been manager of the Dublin U21 team for five years. Because he has the players at training, he knows what theyโre like from previous years, he sets high standards in terms of their suitability.
โOnce he was appointed, it would have been expected that he would hit the ground running rather than need a long period of time to work himself into the role.
โI think that winning the national league, he mightnโt have necessarily expected to do that, but they did it very well.โ

Captain
And Mullins believes captain Stephen Cluxtonโs input is crucial in setting the tone.
โStephen Cluxtonโs kick outs have gone to another level. Itโs a testament to him that even after 12 years with Dublin, still heโs finding aspects of his game he continues to improve on. Thatโs a sign of a top performer.
โIf you were just to take Stephen Cluxtonโs attitude and approach. Heโs very deep about his contribution to the play. Heโs very protective and sets very high standards.
โI think heโs the one that Jim Gavin would have expected to set the bar for the younger players that have come in.โ
Great stuff what a great achievement. This 7s team should be talked about more their a credit to the country. Well done
Does it really generate a positive buzz?.Irelandโs 15โฒs team has been decimated to prioritise the sevens team. The fifteenโs game is what the Irish public actually see and weโve seen the car crash itโs become.
Letโs face it, like the menโs team in the last Olympics, people will care about it for a couple of days and then go back to ignoring it.
So weโll done to the squad but Iโd still much prefer to see the likes of Parsons and Flood playing serious rugby for Irelandโs 15s team and trying to improve them rather than seeing them every four years in the Olympics.
@Jim OโConnor: would help if RTร broadcast the games
@Jim OโConnor: maybe the IRFU have done some research and have found that 7โs is a more attractive form of rugby for young women and girls ?? If you wanted to grow the game perhaps they think this is method to do it? Donโt know, just a theory
@Bert far: Would you give it a rest.
Brilliant!!! And puts the dismal 6nations 15โs performances into perspective- when you lose players of this quality to 7โs it was always going to weaken a 15โs team that was already behind the curve Vs the competition
Was Aoibheann OโReilly playing?
Yawn.
