Both Derrytresk and Dromid hit with heavy bans and fines for brawl

Tyrone club will, reportedly, have to plan without eight players for their All-Ireland Club decider at Croke Park.

CROKE PARK CHIEFS have reportedly dealt severely with Tyrone club Derrytresk after their recent brawl with Kerry outfit Dromid Pearses.

Players and supporters clashed during the teams’ All-Ireland Junior Club semi-final  at Portlaoise on 22 January.

Reports tonight suggest the Ulster side will now have to plan for their Croke Park decider on Sunday week against Clonbur of Galway without eight of the starting 15 who lined out in the semi-final have been banned.

Teamtalkmag.com reports the club have been fined €5000 by the CCCC while the Kingdom outfit have had three players suspended and a fine of €2,000 imposed.

Dromid’s Denis O’Sullivan was the only player shown a red card in a game which Derrytresk won 1-10 to 0-7. Club officials from both clubs met with GAA officials in Portlaoise on Monday evening and, it is understood, players were told of the bans tonight.

No representative from Derrytresk was immediately available for comment though both clubs held emergency meetings earlier, according to the Irish Times and a response is expected tomorrow.

There has been no official confirmation from the GAA.

The clubs can request a hearing from the Central Hearings Committee or take their arguements to the Central Appeals Committee.

Proper order, that type of behaviour has no place in any game, hopefully it sends a strong message to other teams.

Ah wait, wait, wait. Fines and bans will be reduced dramatically on appeal. Might even see the threat of legal action rearing its ugly head.

Great to see Dromid getting a reprimand also, as it was them that started the whole fracas. The way the Kerry crowd came out on Joe Duffy after the game you’d swear they did nothing wrong. One woman, who spoke on the radio, put it across that in Kerry they respect the rules and it was all Derrytresk’s fault, of course she never mentioned any wrong doing from her “saintly, custodians of all things GAA and losers:- Dromid.! Typical Kerry, they always think they are “holier than tough ” and they are very sore losers (worst in Ireland), so well done to the GAA in dishing out fines and penalties to both sides.

How do u figure that one?? U at the game??? The Dromid lads went to shake hands before the game and they were grabbed my the balls!! They made a mans wife and two kids cry at the side line as they could only watch in horror as he was assaulted!!! It was a horrific display and they should have been thrown out of all competitions for 12 months!! In future maybe you should do some research before posting unfounded comments!!!

Well done to the GAA for taking a tough stance on this thuggery. This type of incident is far to common in Gaelic games and a clear message needs to be sent out that it has no place in sport. Take up boxing if you don’t agree.

Being beaten at football is something but being beaten to the ground and kicked in the head isn’t football – Where ever you might come from…..

They’re sore losers in Kerry. That’s all I said. I don’t know about the other team so I didn’t comment on them. And as you mention it beating the heads off people is a key part of the game in Kerry.

Ag all I was saying is that it just wasn’t Derrytresk who were at fault.mat Nozaed0401 point in my post did I say Derrytresk were not also to blame. The GAA have given fines and penalties to both sides and really it is Derrytresk who are going to suffer as they are in an All Ireland Final without eight of their players. It makes Nozaed0401 real difference to Dromid as they are out of the competition.

I think if you believe that Derrytresk should be banned well then it goes that Things like say for example Tadgh Kennelly’s All Ireland medal should be taken back. Remember he told Galvin the night before an All Ireland final,”he was going to take a man out in the game”, then he went out in an AI final broke a players jaw, wrote a book about it and f****d off to Oz then with a medal in his ar** pocket. So if that is not outright tuggerry , what is??????

Suspensions had to come…but not to the starting players but to the idiots who jumped the fence…they deserve year bans etc…as for the players on the pitch…they were involved in a mellee which happens every weekend up and down the country and maybe ..one maybe 2 are sent off….8 is just ridiculous….if it were a dublin team would we see 8 suspensions..Maybe not…?

70 killed in egypy, fisty cuffs in portlaoise, it shows that when the media blow something out of proportion what happens, it was handbags! Be realistic compare egypy to portlaoise! Not one player would of been suspended if it was a county championship game! No one would really care
