Benitez to name Zenden as his No.2 - Report

The Dutchman’s father claims that the former midfielder will become Chelsea’s new assistant manager.

FORMER CHELSEA MIDFIELDER Boudewijn Zenden is set to become assistant manager at the club.

According to his father Pierre, the former Dutch international, who enjoyed spells in the Premier League with Middlesbrough, Liverpool and Sunderland and played for the Pensioners between 2001 and 2004, will be named as Rafael Benitez’s No.2 later today.

The 36-year-old has previously worked under the Spaniard during his time at Anfield. Speaking to Voetbal International, Pierre Zenden said:

He was approached on Wednesday by Benítez and is now on a flight,” he said. “Since yesterday, he phoned Benítez many times.

“I assume that he will be on the pitch this afternoon, together with the manager. I assume he will finish the season, just like Benítez.”

Benitez is scheduled to be unveiled to the media by Chelsea at 5.30pm after being named as Roberto Di Matteo’s replacement yesterday.
