The 2013 Try of the Year showcases the All Blacks at their awesome best

Beauden Barrett’s name goes on the winners list but this was a team effort by the All Blacks against France.

BEAUDEN BARRETT’S ELECTRIC score against France has been named as the International Rugby Players’ Association Try of the Year 2013.

The try was chosen from a shortlist of five, trumping his All Blacks teammate Ben Smith, Scotland’s Stuart Hogg and South Africa’s Jean de Villiers and Zane Kirchner.

Barrett ran in to cap the second Test win in Christchurch, finishing off a super counter-attack that started with a turnover inside New Zealand’s own 22.

Andrew Mehrtens, who was on the four-man judging panel, said that jury had plumped for a try which combined individual brilliance and collective effort.

“When it came down to it, Barrett’s try stood out for the judges due to the high level of skills involved by different players, and, most importantly, the teamwork required to make it happen.”
