IT WAS A dark Saturday evening for Dublin hurling.
Under the guidance of Ger Cunningham, the Sky Blues travelled to Thurles on Saturday evening and were given a hiding by Tipperary.
The Premier County ran out 22-point winners in a one-sided All-Ireland SHC round 2 qualifier, and confirmation of Cunningham’s exit, after three years in charge, is expected this week.
Speaking after the game, Cork goalkeeping legend Cunningham admitted that he was “shell-shocked” and didn’t see this result coming.
During his three years, Cunningham has overseen a huge overhaul, with a number of key players walking away or deemed surplus to requirements.
Anthony Daly was Cunningham’s predecessor in the role, and Dublin won National League and Leinster championships during his time there.
Daly’s on the record previously as stating that the transition has been too quick under Cunningham, and he reacted on The Sunday Game last night to Saturday’s drubbing.
“I find it even difficult to talk about it, to be honest.
“Sad to watch it last night, now I had bad days there as well, don’t get me wrong, shocking days.
“But we nearly bounced a good bit and unfortunately for Ger, it’s gone kind of downhill the whole way.
I’m not going to list the amount of guys that could have been out there last night but, by God, there was at least half a team that could have been out there that would have made a better fist of having a go at Tipperary. There’s too many young lads in there.
“I’d prefer a united stance than a few lads going. We’ve seen strikes and we we don’t want to encourage that. We saw the Galway thing and the Mayo thing and we don’t want to see that.
“What we had in Dublin was a whole mix and match of things. I don’t know, it didn’t work for anybody and it’s sad to see.”

Scotland always had an excellent backline but ever had a solid 10 and their pack was always relatively lightweight. This has changed with the likes of Nel , Denton , Russell and the Gray brothers.
