FERNANDO ALONSO ON Thursday muddied the waters still further about his mysterious crash in testing when he said he remembers every detail but that the cause remains unknown.
The two-time world champion said a freak steering lock-up caused him to crash his McLaren in Barcelona in February, and that he only lost his memory when given medication afterwards.
But he said exhaustive tests had been unable to locate the cause of the steering failure, a concerning revelation before he returns to racing this week in Malaysia.
Speculation swirled that Alonso may have blacked out or suffered an electric shock before the February 22 accident, which was into an inside wall at a relatively low speed.
One report said the Spanish driver, 33, believed it was 1995 when he came round, and that he was still a teenager racing go-karts.
But Alonso said: โI went to the hospital in good condition. There is a time that I donโt remember, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, something like that.
โEverything was normal due to the medication they give you to go into the helicopter and do some tests in the hospital.
โIt was normal. I didnโt wake up in 1995, I didnโt wake up speaking Italian. I remember the accident and I remember everything that following day.โ
Alonso has been cleared to take part in this weekโs Malaysian Grand Prix after missing the season-opener in Australia to avoid the risk of a second concussion.
But questions remain over his MP4-30 car, which has been fitted with extra sensors after none of the data collected in Spain was able to explain what happened.
โIโm sure weโre missing something on the data acquisition which weโll spot in 10 yearsโ time when the knowledge is available,โ he said, answering media questions about the crash for the first time.
โI have zero doubts, zero concerns (about racing),โ he added.
The car crash being man utds season amiright?
Hopefully Bruno will be fit, his work rate, ability to track runners and his ability to whine moan and fall over will be good news for Liverpool though that said his creativity could be a problem for Liverpools high line if Utd had willing runners
I will roar with delight if Liverpool win tomorrow
Hopefully they will crash by 3 or 4 goals tomorrow Brian my old son
@OโBrien Michael: pool be raging hot favourites anyway. Cant remember one of these sides being such hot favourites going into this fixture. But ue know what, even if utd lose 6 0 the world will keep spinning and weโll get back on the horse. And who knows, maybe theyโll pull a huge performance out. Unlikely but thatโs the beauty of football.
@Brian Dunne: They have nothing to lose tomorrow as Liverpool are raging hot favourites and thatโs what makes United so dangerous Brian.
@OโBrien Michael: what ever you need to tell yourself I suppose
@OโBrien Michael: Top 4 to loose, surely they canโt expect too many more pardons from Arsenal and Spurs.
