CRYSTAL PALACE MANAGER Alan Pardew says it would take at least €56 million for him to even consider selling Yannick Bolasie this summer.
The winger has been linked with a close-season switch to Liverpool after a fine campaign for the Eagles this term and, while his boss accepts that “everyone has a price”, he insists he would demand a huge fee.
“If someone wants to give me €56m-€84m [for Bolasie], somewhere in there, that would be good,” Pardew told reporters. ”I’d take it and we’d build the team around that money.
“Everyone has a price, of course. I can think of a situation I had at Newcastle in the last hour of the transfer window – a team that wasn’t great and not far away from the relegation zone and we accepted €42m for Andy Carroll.
“If a manager wants to ring me up, I’ll talk to them and give them a proper price.”
Pardew believes his Palace players are ‘undervalued’ and insists their stock has risen considerably under his tenure.
Bolasie, a Democratic Republic of Congo international, moved to Selhurst Park for £400,000 from Bristol City in 2012 and has impressed this season.
The 25-year-old has scored just four Premier League goals this term, three of which came against Sunderland recently, but rumours suggest Brendan Rodgers was preparing a £10 million bid for Bolasie in the summer.
The Reds boss can rate him as highly as he wants but there is no way the Anfield hierarchy will write a cheque for €56 million for Bolasie’s signature, or should they?
5.6 million even would be serious profit !! Pardew on the disco biscuits again
Its funny he thinks he has a say on player prices! Ian moody would take 10-15m anyday!
Ya madness. I wonder what experience in his past could make Pardew think Liverpool would pay him massively over the odds for a young player after a few good games….
If this is the level of player Liverpool think will improve them then I fear for them next season.
He’s had a better couple of seasons and been more consistent than a lot of Liverpool’s players so wouldn’t be a bad move
Saw Phil Thompson’s delusional article on buying Cavani, Lavezzi or Higuain. The reality is Bolaise is kind of the standard, yes. What can Liverpool offer? A team with no certified “stars”, Gerrard out the door and Europa League football. Aside from 2005, Liverpool has done nothing in the past 20 years that would attract top players. And that shows in the players Liverpool bought last season: Balotelli, Lambert, Lovren, Markovic, Lallana.Name the last time Liverpool bought a marquee name even. They couldn’t land Sanchez. Says it all for me really.
The biggest reason why we couldn’t land players is wages. All of those things above may be true, but at the end of the day if you’re a top player you won’t go if the club won’t offer you at least £100k a week. The reason why we haven’t signed anybody world class is because we’ve never offered them >£100k/week as their first contract with the club. Thommo’s article isn’t delusional; the players on that list could come but only if Henry has the balls to pay them at least £150k a week. Higuain for example is at a very unstable Napoli given that Rafa’s going, the owner can’t provide much money for transfers. This is the type of situation Liverpool need to exploit and lure him with the promise of PL football and a sh*tload of money, and whatever history, YNWA b*llocks they want to play. If my argument weren’t true then how did PSG become today’s PSG? They were sh*te in Ligue1 for about 20 years, almost got relegated a few years back, yet when the Arabs took over and offered crazy money, players joined. Say what you want about Liverpool vs Paris as a city, but money is always the biggest factor in transfers.
Absolutely money plays a big part; I don’t disagree with you there. But that standard of player isn’t going to go to Liverpool under the current regime. There is nothing attractive about Liverpool right now; neither wages, players, honours, city. That’s why I think Thompson is miles off the mark. If Cavani, Lavezzi or Higuain became available, how many other clubs would want them and how far down the pecking order would Liverpool be? I’m not bashing them, historically a fantastic club. But mostly irrelevant in the big money era.
Well aside from money, what did Man City have to offer when they were taken over? They had a big pot of money but Mark Hughes/Mancini as manager, with no history or record of trophies. Liverpool, whatever way you look at it, is still a top club and even without CL football and all the other stuff said, we can still attract players but only if we pay them as much or more than our competitors. I was correct in saying that we haven’t bought anyone with >£100k a week as their first contract and that’s the principle reason why nobody has come imo.
Pretty good at talking through his a##e is alan.
The club will obviously accept quite a bit less than €56 million, just Pardew being Pardew.
don’t worry alan brendan and the transfer committee will give at least 25 million.
Was only saying to a couple of mates. Bolasie would be a good signing if sterling don’t sighn a new contract. He destroyed Liverpool at palace last year. Lightening pace
Havent seen much of him but there is a difference between playing with Palace, who defend a lot and hit on the break, and Liverpool, who often find themselves trying to break down organised defences. Liverpool’s transfer brains never seem to take this into account.
