Cork's Alan O'Connor suffers suspected cruciate injury during Kildare clash

The Rebel midfielder was taken off early in the first-half in Semple Stadium.

CORKโ€™S ALAN Oโ€™CONNOR suffered a suspected cruciate ligament injury in tonightโ€™s All-Ireland qualifier against Kildare in Thurles.

Oโ€™Connorโ€™s left knee buckled underneath him after catching a kickout in the 20th minute of the match.

He immediately collapsed in pain before being wheeled away after being treated by the Cork medical team.

A Cork medical source confirmed to The42 after the game that it is feared the St Columโ€™s club man has torn his cruciate but will have to undergo scans before the full extent is known.

The loss of Oโ€™Connor was a major setback to Corkโ€™s hopes and they exited the championship with an eight-point defeat.

Oโ€™Connorโ€™s return from retirement to the Cork panel in April was a major boost to the Rebels and he gave a man-of-the-match display in the drawn Munster final against Kerry.
