Four arrested after alleged changing room assault on Irish jockey

There was an unsavoury incident at Southwell Racecourse yesterday afternoon.

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING an incident at Southwell Racecourse yesterday which left Irish jockey Aidan Coleman with ‘minor injuries’.

Four people have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault after three members of the public forced their way into the jockey’s changing room.

The incident occurred after the last race, the Book Christmas At Southwell Racecourse Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, at 5.10pm on Tuesday. Coleman finished last aboard Sawwala.

A statement issued by Nottinghamshire Police read: “Four people have been arrested following an assault at Southwell Racecourse yesterday afternoon (29 September 2015).

“Officers were called at 5.23pm to reports of a man being assaulted in the weighing room.

“They attended and arrested two men and one woman on suspicion of assault and criminal damage, and another woman for obstructing police.

“The victim sustained minor injuries.”

Coleman, who has since returned home and will now not race at Chepstow later today, told The Racing Post: ”Two of them burst into the changing room and when they were asked to leave it all kicked off.

“I think they had drunk that much they didn’t know what they were doing.”

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed all four people remain in custody this morning.

Cork-born jockey Coleman has won 54 races in Britain this season.

No chance. 25-1. The complete rag.
Must have had the last of the beer money on it.
Which proves they had had too much to drink already.
