Irish U21 striker signs new contract and joins first-team squad at Norwich City

Adam Idah will be given a chance to prove himself to be worthy of the Premier League this season.

IRISH U21 STRIKER Adam Idah has been awarded a new contract with Norwich City along with a promotion to the first-team squad ahead of the clubโ€™s return to the Premier League.

The 18-year-old from Cork joined Norwich in 2017, and his progress at the club has been impressive since.

Having initially impressed for the clubโ€™s U18s โ€“ his first season ended in the Player of the Season award โ€“ he was promoted to the U23s last year, scoring 13 times in all competitions.

His latest promotion continues a fine summer for Idah, having scored twice for the Irish U21s in the prestigious Toulon tournament.

โ€œAfter Toulon, I got given the news that I would be training with the first-teamโ€, Idah told the Norwich website.

โ€œI was told it would be for the first few days but the other day, I was told it would be permanently.

โ€œIโ€™ve definitely had to pinch myself at points. A week ago, when I was at home and packing my bags to come here, it didnโ€™t seem real.

โ€œComing into the changing room a couple of days ago was surreal, but Iโ€™m very happy to be back now.โ€

Idah has played for Ireland from U16 level, and he scored twice in the U21sโ€™ 3-0 qualifier win over Luxembourg in March.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted to sign a new deal hereโ€, said Idah.

โ€œThe moment they offered me a new contract, I knew straight away that I wanted to sign it. Iโ€™ve loved every minute here so Iโ€™m delighted. My form last season was great and Iโ€™ve worked very hard to get myself to where I am now.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted to be in the position I am now. Last year helped me a lot to get me to this position.โ€

Great news . Hard to know if these guys are real prospects the way Irish media writes about them. But this guy seems the real deal .

@Ronan McDermott: I made a point in Janaury of writing down the names of about 20 late teens next big things that the likes of pundit arena and Eire Guide harps on about. I hope to Christ the majority make it but it will be interesting to look at the list in 5 years. I remember the days when some in the media talked of a potential international tug of war between Holland and Ireland for Barry Maguire,.last seen at Limerick.

@Trenchant Buffoon: Spot on. The likes of pundit arena and sportsjoe are basically just online amateurish tabloids that write a lot of sensationalist, sneering or over the top articles just to get the clicks. Idah looks good so hope he can make a long lasting contribution to Ireland!

@Trenchant Buffoon: it happens every country I think. Some really good prospects up to senior and then they donโ€™t make it.

Some decent young attacking talent on the horizon at last. Troy Parrott, Obafemi and Aaron Connolly all look decent aswell

Great news,An outstanding talent and heโ€™s playing under a manager in Daniel Farke who is not afraid to give young players a chance so hopefully weโ€™ll see him playing a few games for Norwich in the premier league this coming season.
