ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC SCORED an unusual winner, as PSG beat St Etienne 1-0 in the French League Cup quarter-final last night.
Ibrahimovic chested the ball into the net and while replays showed it crossed the line, the opposition goalkeeper, Stéphane Ruffier, insisted he made the save.
The controversy prompted home fans to furiously throw objects onto the pitch, delaying the game by 15 minutes in the process.
PSG, under pressure from last weekend’s 4-2 loss to Bastia, ultimately held on to give coach Laurent Blanc a much-needed win.

Whats controversial about it? He chested it over the line, it’s a goal. The goal was correctly awarded.
It caused controversy (fans throwing stuff onto the pitch etc) therefore it was controversial. Even if something is 100% correct, it can still be considered controversial. For example, it was once considered controversial to claim that the world was round.
The “fans” reaction to the goal was controversial. The goal itself was not.
Controversy is defined by Dictionary.com as anything that causes “prolonged public dispute, debate, or contention”. Given that the goal caused a 15-minute delay to the game owing to protests, I think it’s fair to say that it falls under this category and was indeed controversial.
But there is nothing to dispute it was a goal. The fans reaction is blurred by their passion – Bedfords Law of Controversy comes to mind.
This may be one of the most controversial articles of your carrier Paul :)
One of the most controversial mistakes you made when you said “carrier”, Mark. :-/
I’ve had fat fingers my whole career! D’oh
@Mark But there was something to dispute — whether it was over the line or not. Obviously, the fans/goalkeeper were completely wrong, as replays illustrated, but that doesn’t stop it from being disputable/controversial.
Plus, the BBC (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30808280), the Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/14/fans-psg-st-etienne-ibrahimovic-winner) and others have also described the goal as ‘controversial,’ so somehow I doubt we’re all wrong.
Ah now Paul come on. The lads are right. The goal wasn’t controversial the situation was. Don’t be following all of them other rubbish tabloids.
Much ado about nothing.
Give it up Paul! You need to accept when you lose as It makes it that bit more triumphant when u win. PS If the Guardian and BBC have it that way , it must be right – FACEPALM(or whatever the cool kids say these days)
In other news, God scores great chested goal.
That goal was good.
The Controversy is about this article…
Still wouldn’t label it in the same bracket as “Joe Sheridan” controversial
The argument between Paul and mark is controversial !!!!
Thats the normal way the strikers in france score.
The goal was fine, there was a controversial reaction to it.
