Backheels, flicks and thumping goals: Zizou Zidane has still got it, baby

The defending was shocking, the goalkeepers were looking to swap jerseys but the classy Frenchman remained classy throughout.

FORMER REAL MADRID, Juventus and France midfielder Zinedine Zidane has been rolling back the years in Zurich this evening.

Los Blancos’ sporting director is taking part in a star-studded charity match against Young Guys Bern, with all the money raised going to those affected by a hurricane in the Philippines last November. Players on show include Zizou, Cristiano Ronaldo, Davour Suker, Luis Figo and Pavel Nedved.

Those pesky Young Boys went 1-0 up on Zidane’s UNDP [United Nations Development Programme] All-Stars before the maestro intervened with this sweet backheel flick pass.

The Young Boys responded to the Frenchman’s insolence by scoring two more. At 3-0, and with Brazilian Women’s striker Marta failing to score, Zidane slammed home from just inside the box.

That goal sparked a comeback from UNDP [your new, favourite football team] and Zidane soon had a penalty to make it 7-5. Did he miss? Did he ‘eck. Nuno Gomes made it 8-5, just to rub salt in Swiss wounds.
