Zebo heads for scan on ankle as Butler ruled out for 8 weeks

The back row suffered a fractured thumb in Edinburgh and will be out until December.

SIMON ZEBO WILL undergo a scan to determine the extent of the ankle injury which forced him into an early exit from Munster’s lacklustre Heineken Cup defeat in Edinburgh.

The winger crumpled over in agony before he was tackled on his 11th carry of the day in Murrayfield and was reportedly on crutches as a precaution as the squad flew home from Scotland.

With time for the swelling to die down, the winger will now go for a scan on the injury this evening.

The results will be anxiously awaited not only by Rob Penney, but by Joe Schmidt with the November internationals now just four weeks away.

There is definite news on Paddy Butler who stood in at blindside in place of captain Peter O’Mahony on Saturday. The back row fractured his right thumb in the opening minutes of the second half against Edinburgh and after undergoing surgery in Limerick yesterday, the province have issued an eight-week time-frame for his return.

Number eight James Coughlan stands a chance of facing Gloucester at Thomond Park this week. The number eight had an x-ray on his forearm which showed now significant damage, but his recovery will be monitored.

O’Driscoll still ‘a wee bit away’ from being fit in time for Castres visit
