Would you take a Panenka to keep your team in a penalty shootout? Younis Mahmoud just did

Now this takes some nerves.

IRAQ HAVE JOINED South Korea and Australia in the semi-finals of the Asia Cup after a 7-6 win on penalties over bitter rivals Iran.

After a roller-coaster game finished 1-1 at full-time and 3-3  after 120 minutes, it would take spotkicks to separate the two sides.

Defender Salam Shakir calmly converted the winning penalty after Vahid Amiry had missed for Iran, sending Iraq through to the semi-finals against South Korea.

However, needing to convert to keep his side in it earlier in the shootout, Iraq captain Younis Mahmoud did this:

What makes the attempt more audacious is that Mahmoud had skied a similar Panenka attempt against the same opposition in a friendly just a few weeks ago.

Nerves of steel that lad.
