'It really feels like someone close to you has died' - Wozniacki opens up on McIlroy split

Tennis star speaks openly about her split from the world’s number one golfer.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI SAID that her high-profile split with Rory McIlroy felt “like someone close to you has died.”

The sporting supercouple broke up last in May of last year when McIlroy called off their wedding — just days after the invitations had been sent out.

The shock left Wozniacki heartbroken but the tennis world number five now feels that she is a much stronger person for the experience.

“In my head I had everything until that moment,” she said in an exclusive interview with the Independent.

“I had a great career, I was getting married, I have a perfect family. Everything was great. There was really nothing going against me. I was happy, very happy.

Then all of a sudden something happens that you don’t expect. You just see your world turned around, literally from one second to the next.

“I think I didn’t know how strong I was until that happened. And I didn’t know how much you can actually take. It really feels like someone close to you has died.”
