Is this the worst panenka penalty ever attempted?

Hint: yes.

IT WAS NOT a good day for Benfica’s Romario Baldé in the Uefa Youth League recently.

With his side leading 1-0, he missed a penalty in embarrassing fashion, as his panenka — the style of spot-kick made famous by Antonín Panenka – was comfortably saved by the Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper.

And to compound Baldé’s woe, he was substituted, while his team drew 1-1 and ended up being eliminated from the competition — on penalties.

Portugal’s Record newspaper reports that the youngster reacted to the loss “by throwing himself to the ground crying inconsolably,” before apologising to teammates.
