World's greatest Frankel back in action and set for Lockinge test on 19 May

The four-year-old suffered a setback in his recovery from injury recently, but is expected to be ready for the summer.

FRANKEL, THE WORLDโ€™S highest-rated Flat horse, has stepped up his recovery from injury with some work at Newmarket on Wednesday.

The four-year-old suffered a setback during a routine exercise last month but scans on his leg confirmed that the colt had not suffered any serious damage.

Henry Cecil still has the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on 19 May in mind for Frankel, with further entries in the one-mile Queen Anne Stakes and the 10-furlong Prince Of Walesโ€™s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

However, racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe would prefer to take matters one day at a time.

โ€œHe did a little bit of work this morning. It was nothing very much, it was just a gentle piece, but he strode out well and everyone was very pleased,โ€ said Grimthorpe.

โ€œWeโ€™ll just see how we go. It was his first bit of work (after the injury) and heโ€™s going to have to continue to please everyone.

โ€œIt is still the intention to run in the Lockinge, but as I said, weโ€™ll just see how we go.โ€
