Woods beefs up Presidents Cup preparations

Inclusion in Fred Couples’ team for the Presidents Cup has seen Woods add an additional Tour date to his schedule.

TIGER WOODS WILL return to PGA Tour action in October at the Frys.com Open in California, it was confirmed on Monday evening.

It will be the first time the former world number one has played the event – won last year by Rocco Mediate – and it’s an opportunity Woods says he is looking forward to.

“I always enjoy competing in my home state and this tournament fits my schedule perfectly,” Woods told his official website.

“John Fry and his company have supported the tour and I’ve heard good things about the event and the golf course. One of my goals this year was to participate in a tournament I hadn’t played before, and now, I will.”

Woods did hint that he could add an additional date to his playing schedule after missing the cut at the PGA Championships. He is due to compete as a captain’s pick in the Presidents Cup in Australia in November and after three months away from the golf – because of knee and Achilles’ tendon injuries – the event from October 6th – 9th will only be his ninth start of the year.

Woods concluded: “It’s been a long time between the PGA and Frys, and I’ll be anxious to compete.”
