KENYA’S WILSON KIPSANG finished the Berlin marathon today in a time of two hours, three minutes and 23 seconds to break the world record by 15 seconds.
The previous record of two hours, three minutes and 38 seconds had been set by Kipsang’s compatriot Patrick Makau at the same race in 2011 and Kipsang’s time marks the ninth occasion the Berlin event has been the scene of a world record.
Florence Kiplagat made it double joy for Kenya as she completed the women’s race in two hours, 21 minutes and 13 seconds.
Cork’s Lizzi Lee finished ninth in a time 2:38:09, a personal best by some 12 minutes.
