WEXFORD YOUTHS HAVE been crowned Women’s National League champions for the third time in four years after a dramatic final-day, winner-takes-all clash against Peamount United at Ferrycarrig Park.
The penultimate round of results meant leaders Peamount headed into the game needing just a draw to secure a first championship since 2012 while second-placed Wexford – one point back – had to go for the jugular.
It was tense and tight for the opening period but, just before the break, Emma Hansberry put the home side in front with a terrific finish.
Peamount pushed to try and find an equaliser however, midway through the second-half, Rianna Jarrett doubled Wexford’s lead and the home fans dared to dream.
And Laura Heffernan’s side dug in their heels for the remainder of the game and held on for a famous 2-0 victory.

I’d say they missed on purpose. Couldn’t afford the replay
Rory Beggan could pop it over from the halfway line if the conditions were right, serious distance. McManus immense as usual
As a Down man, I’m a bit more confident after watching that. We’ll just get hammered by less than I thought now.
@Niall Campbell: I don’t know, I’d give Down a good chance against Monaghan.
Good hard tough game
@Shaun Gallagher: Yeah Cavan could have grabbed a draw there at the death.
@Shaun Gallagher: it was god awful dirt
