WEST BROM HAVE signed Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon for a club record fee, reported to be in the region of £12m.
Liverpool had been linked to Rondon earlier in the summer, as an alternative to Christian Benteke. The Anfield club had been reluctant to meet the Belgian’s release clause and were rumoured to have scouts in attendance at the Copa America, where Rondon was in action with Venezuela.

But the 25-year-old has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract to become the Baggies’ fifth summer signing. They have already added James McClean, James Chester, Rickie Lambert and Serge Gnabry on a season-long loan.
“We feel with age on his side and the prices English clubs are asking for their players, it’s a deal worth doing,” said Manager Tony Pulis.
Rondon scored 20 goals in 37 appearances for the Russian club last season, and has also had spells at Rubin Kazan and Malaga.
Pulis also revealed that he had spoken to two of the Venezuelan’s former managers. He said Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini and former Zenit boss Andre Villas-Boas “highly recommended” the striker.
Unfortunately for Pulis and West Brom, Rondon will not be eligible for Manchester City’s visit to the Hawthorns tonight.
