The Spanish manager, whose side will come up against Ireland in Group C, has spoken out about the dangers of complacency.

THE NATIONAL COACH of Ireland’s Euro 2012 opponents Spain says he will not be taking anything in the tournament for granted despite being 5/2 favourites to defend their title.

Vincente Del Bosque’s side, which contains an array of talent including Xavi, Iniesta and David Silva, must play Ireland, Italy and Croatia in Group C and the 61-year-old has warned against complacency.

“It is very difficult to win in the current football climate,” the former Real Madrid coach told reporters.

And we cannot allow ourselves to think we are the best, because it would be the first step to failure.”

Del Bosque added that Spain’s recent success, which includes winning the World Cup two years ago, will not affect their campaign in Poland and Ukraine.

“As good players, everything that happened at the last European Championship and World Cup won’t affect us.”

“It is important to have excitement for a tournament like the Euros.”
