Wayne Rooney flies home from United's pre-season tour with injury

Anyone in the market for a striker with dodgy hamstrings?

WAYNE ROONEY FACES a race to be fit for the start of the Premier League season after injuring his hamstring in training.

The Manchester United striker has been the subject on constant transfer speculation this summer despite manager David Moyes’ insistence that he is staying at Old Trafford.

Rooney flew out to Thailand yesterday for the first leg of the club’s pre-season tour but will now return home for medical treatment.

“Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided that Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation,” a statement issued by United read.

“It is anticipated he will be unavailable for selection for a month.”

Depending on the severity of the injury Rooney could miss the Premier League kick-off. United play FA Cup winners Wigan in the Community Shield on 11 August before they open their title defence away to Swansea City on 17 August.
