Crystal Palace goalkeeper Hennessey charged over alleged Nazi salute

The goalkeeper was seen holding one hand in the air and the other above his mouth on social media.

CRYSTAL PALACE GOALKEEPER Wayne Hennessey has been charged by the Football Association over a social media post in which he made an alleged Nazi salute.

The FA confirmed on Wednesday that Hennessey has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

“Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3,” a statement said.

“It is alleged that a gesture he made, which was captured by a photograph and posted on social media, breached Rule E3[1] as it was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

“It is further alleged that this constitutes an ‘Aggravated Breach’, which is defined in Rule E3[2], as it included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion and/or belief.”

Hennessey, who has made 17 Premier League appearances for Palace this season, has been given until 31 January to respond to the FA charge.

3 uncapped lads are all very interesting. Jack Kelly was massively rated when he was U20 but injuries have really stalled his development. A bit of time in Sevens will be great for him but I hope we see him back in 15′s. Daly is an openside flanker and it’s great to see forwards from 15′s who have the skills and pace to be an asset at 7′s. And I’m delighted for O’Sullivan and the example it sets for other lads who miss out on provincial academies. He went to Lansdowne, put the head down and is now rumoured to be getting a contract with Connacht to go with his 7′s call up.

@Eddie Hekenui: delighted for Sullivan too, great piece on him here a few weeks back, you love to see a lad like that’s hard work pay-off. I wasn’t aware of the Connacht link but was kind of surprised they weren’t in for him, he fits their pattern, but one way or another, be it with Connacht or the 7′s I wish him the best, looking forward to seeing him in action in London.

@Darragh Murray: I’m not sure if it’ll happen but I heard from a lad I know who plays with Lansdowne that there’d been informal talks between the two about a contract.

@Eddie Hekenui: you’d imagine if he got offered a contract with the 7’s he’d be inclined to give that a year? Hard to know I guess, salary is not great, but the temptation of a year on the world circuit must be huge.
